Since I was also posting this in the "Work In Progress" section on the ArtRage forum, I received some feedback about the background. Some felt the painting needed to focus mainly on the elk and felt to many trees in the background would pull your eye away from the main subject. I finished it both ways... You be the judge!
They're both beautiful but personally I like the one with trees better. I like the feeling that the elk is standing in a meadow clearing right at the edge of the forest more like his natural habitat. I think the elk is highlighted enough and the trees are soft so he stands out fine. On the other hand, if you take this background and put a buffalo instead of an elk, that would look awesome!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say the same thing - they are both good but I prefer the one with the trees. Maybe the trees could be just slightly lighter to fade away more, but I think it's breathtaking!
